Tips
for your tank:
-
Pump
regularly based on tank size and usage. See chart under pumping.
-
Fix
leaky faucets (and running toilets) and space heavy water usage thru
out the day (shower, laundry, etc).
-
Your
toilet is not a garbage can. Flush only human waste and toilet
paper.
-
Never
dispose of cooking oils or grease down the drain.
-
Limit
chemicals especially drain cleaners and bleach.
-
Septic
additives (biological or chemical) do not replace pumping and in most
cases are not necessary.
-
Using
a garbage disposal can shorten the time between pumping by 1 year or
more.
Tips for your drainfield:
-
Do
not cover your drainfield with hard surfaces such as asphalt or
concrete. Grass is the best cover. It will help prevent
erosion and help remove excess water.
-
Do
not plant trees or shrubs in your drainfield area. Their roots
can get into the lines and cause problems.
-
Do
not drive over your drainfield with cars, trucks or heavy equipment.
