Tips for your tank:

  • Pump regularly based on tank size and usage.  See chart under pumping.

  • Fix leaky faucets (and running toilets) and space heavy water usage thru out the day (shower, laundry, etc).

  • Your toilet is not a garbage can.  Flush only human waste and toilet paper.

  • Never dispose of cooking oils or grease down the drain.

  • Limit chemicals especially drain cleaners and bleach.

  • Septic additives (biological or chemical) do not replace pumping and in most cases are not necessary.

  • Using a garbage disposal can shorten the time between pumping by 1 year or more.

Tips for your drainfield:

  • Do not cover your drainfield with hard surfaces such as asphalt or concrete.  Grass is the best cover.  It will help prevent erosion and help remove excess water.

  • Do not plant trees or shrubs in your drainfield area.  Their roots can get into the lines and cause problems.

  • Do not drive over your drainfield with cars, trucks or heavy equipment.
